STANDARDS AND TECHNOLOGY

All member federations are involved in the European standardisation process; common CEN standards have been set up where the characteristics of the products allow for it.

The construction ceramics producers have developed ‘harmonised’ standards on which a CE-mark of conformity with the EU Construction Products Directive may be based.

The wall- and floortiles, tableware and refractories industries are active in converting European into worldwide (ISO) standards.

Cérame-Unie developed a position paper on a possible EU innovation policy, and on a technology policy, which gives sufficient scope for applied research programmes. It has given its views on the Sixth Framework Programme to the Commission. The industry takes an active part in EU research on energy saving.
