Refractory products are a vital element in all high-temperature processes, such as metals making, the production of cement, glass and ceramics, and petrochemical processes. Without refractories there would be no cars, no planes, no trains, no gas or electricity, and we would be eating from wooden plates and living in mud-brick huts.
The European refractories industry has an annual turnover of €3.5 billion and employs around 20,000 people.
PRE, the European Refractories Producers Federation was founded in 1953. PRE offers a European platform on where its members can exchange views and experiences in the common interest. PRE unites members from 16 countries. Four multi-national companies are also a direct member: Calderys, Magnesita, Refratechnik and Vesuvius.
PRE has a sector specific website, where you can find further information on its members, standardisation, REACH and raw materials.
