Cerame-Unie, the European Ceramic Industry Association, is committed to contributing to the definition of a fair and transparent methodology for the allocation of free allowances in the third period of the EU Emissions Trading Scheme – ETS. In line with the spirit of the revised ETS Directive, Cerame-Unie is of the opinion that the final objective of the rules on allocation of free allowances is to create technologically feasible and economically cost-efficient incentives which promote CO2 emissions reduction preserving the competitiveness of the European industry.
Against this background, and in view of the vote of the Climate Change Committee scheduled in autumn, this paper presents the comments of Cerame-Unie to the “Discussion paper: Allocation rules- EU ETS post 2012” prepared by the Environment Agency Austria (UBA).
