TECHNICAL CERAMICS

Technical ceramics are applied in a wide variety of industries, and cover both established products like insulators and new applications. They supply vital elements for the aerospace and automobile industries (engine parts; catalyst carriers), electronics (capacitators; piezo-electrics), biomedical products (bone replacement), environment protection (filters) and many others. As the excellent properties of these materials are not yet widely known, the industry is making great efforts to develop new markets.

The European industry faces stiff competition from Japan and the USA; it takes an estimated 10% share of a rapidly growing world market.

At the European level a wide range of standards are being developed. Important producers are to be found in Germany, the UK and France.
