An article entitled “Navigating ETS 1, ETS2 and fuel switching: A Strategic Perspective for the Enamel Industry” by Magdalena Vallebona, Cerame-Unie Climate & Energy Director, was published in the proceedings of the 26th International Enamellers Congress, which took place on 1-4 June 2026 in Paris.
This short article explains the key elements of the ETS 1 and ETS 2 – the main instruments of the EU climate policy. It draws a picture regarding the possible decarbonisation options in the EU, the state of play of available alternative energy sources as well as the impact of the current economic situation on the competitiveness of the energy-intensive industries, such as enamel and ceramics, in Europe.
