On March 11 2020, the European Commission released its new Circular Economy Action Plan, one of the main blocks of the European Green Deal. The new Action Plan aims to make the EU economy more competitive while continuing to achieve climate-neutrality by 2050. Closely involving the business sectors, the Action Plan introduces legislative and non-legislative measures and targets areas where action at the EU level brings added value. It focuses on a wide range of topics from sustainable products through high-quality secondary raw materials, chemicals policy, requirements for high impact sectors such as construction, waste and R&I. Among the most important measures, the European Commission has announced the development of a sustainable product policy legislative initiative as well as a Strategy for a Sustainable Built Environment, to be published in 2021.
